Young wrestlers earn state titles

ST. JOHNSBURY — Two local youngsters won titles and another eight finished in the top six in their weight classes at Saturday’s wrestling championships for kindergarteners and first- and second-graders, hosted by St. Johnsbury Academy.
Earning championship trophies were Kaidin White from the Vergennes area club and Isayah Isham from the Mount Abraham area club.
In all, 65 wrestlers from a dozen schools or clubs — including Vergennes, Mount Abe and Otter Valley — competed in seven weight groups. White won in Weight Group Three, and Isham in Weight Group Seven.
Brady Babcock posted the best Otter Valley result, taking second in Weight Group 1, and Blake Allen from the Vergennes club took second in Weight Group 5.
By weight, the other top-six finishers were:
•  Weight Group Three: 3. Lucas Whitney, OV; 4. Jasper Kingsley, OV.
•  Weight Group Five: 4. Owen McArdel, OV; 5. Ethan Kenyon, OV.
•  Weight Group Seven: 4. Trevor Carr, Vergennes; 6. Duncan Husk, Mount Abe.
