Women’s lacrosse declaws Bobcats
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team on this past Saturday scored the game’s first five goals on its way to a 15-7 win over visiting Bates (6-6, 1-6). The Panthers improved to 9-2, 6-1 in NESCAC play, and were ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division III entering this week.
They face a test on this Saturday with a key NESCAC match-up at No. 6 Trinity, which is 10-1 and 6-0 in NESCAC play.
Vs. Bates, Georgia Carroll sparked the attack with four goals and two assists, while Emma McDonagh and Delaina Smith each scored three times. Smith added five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Hollis Perticone won six draws, Evie Keating scooped five ground balls, and goalie Kate Furber made eight saves.
Allison Dewey and Camille Belletete scored twice each for Bates, and goalie Eliza Statile matched Furber with eight saves.
The Panthers forced 24 turnovers, but did once again have some trouble holding onto the ball themselves, with 21 turnovers of their own, and clearing their defensive zone, doing so successfully only 16 times in 26 attempts. They controlled 14 of 24 draws.
