MUHS boys’ lacrosse nips rival Woodstock in opener
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ lacrosse team opened its season this past Friday by edging visiting Woodstock, 10-8.
The game was played at Middlebury College’s Alumni Stadium due to wet field conditions at Fucile Field, and the Tigers’ Tuesday home game vs. Essex was postponed.
Senior Andrew Gleason, moved to attack from midfield this spring, sparked the MUHS attack vs. the Wasps in the opener for both teams. Gleason figured in six of the 10 Tiger goals by scoring four times and assisting two strikes.
Trey Kaufmann (two goals and three assists) and Jack Donahue (two goals, one assist) also figured prominently in the MUHS offense vs. the Wasps. Freshman goalie Cam Devlin debuted with a 14-save effort for MUHS.
Dan Robinson tossed in four goals for the Wasps, while Lucas Piconi scored twice. Woodstock goalie Gabe Marsicovetere made 11 saves.
The Tigers are scheduled to play on Rutland’s turf field on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
