TAMPA, Fla. — Ultimate Medical Academy has announced that Cornwall resident Jane Swift has joined the board of directors of the Tampa, Fla.-based nonprofit higher education institution.
Swift, acting governor of Massachusetts from 2001-2003, is currently CEO of Middlebury Interactive Languages and serves as a distinguished visiting lecturer in Leadership Studies at Williams College. She also serves on the boards of several organizations and has a background working with innovative educational providers. Swift received her undergraduate degree from Trinity College and holds several honorary doctorate degrees.

Friedman. “She is uniquely qualified to contribute to our governance as an institution as well as provide insights to support our cutting edge online education as we fulfill our mission to equip and empower students to succeed in healthcare careers.”
Swift brings particular expertise in education and learning technology gained from both her public and private sector positions. She served for 15 years in Massachusetts state government, including as governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, and as a state senator.
“Our country is facing a critical challenge providing practical post-secondary education to students who have not previously experienced success in our traditional higher education system,” Swift said in a press release. “UMA’s mission and track record in meeting the needs of these students is exceptional and I look forward to supporting the institution’s continued positive impact on students at school and in the workforce.”
