Workshop on business ownership succession planning set for April 19
VERGENNES — An introduction to business ownership succession planning will be offered on Wednesday, April 19, from2 p.m. to 5 p.m.atthe Kennedy Brothers Co-working & Conference Center, 11 Main Street in Vergennes. Attendees will receive a copy of “An Owner’s Guide to Business Succession Planning.” There is no cost for this event, but registration is required.
In this seminar, participants will learn the basics of how to choose a path for ownership succession in their business. Four different ways of selling a business will be examined:
· to an outsider
· to family members
· to managers
· to the larger group of employees
John Davis from the Williston office of Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs and Don Jamison from the Vermont Employee Ownership Center will give an overview of the business valuation process and the most common ownership transition models. The focus will be on stories about each path, told by owners who have been involved in the sale of Vermont businesses.
The special guest for this event will be Bill Cherry, Brewmaster and co-founder of Switchback Brewing, who will describe his and his partner’s decision to sell the company to its 30 employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
