Young Middlebury-area wrestlers earn tournament victory

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Area Wrestling Association youth team on Saturday hosted nine other clubs for its first home tournament in several years at Middlebury Union Middle School and came away with a team title as many MAWA wrestlers earned individual first-place finishes.
First-place winners were Avery Carl, Parker Carl, Tucker Wright, Colton Odell, Colton Brinkmanship, Heath Odell, Kaden Wright, Phoenix Popp and Nick Sheldrick.
Cyrus Odell and Camdon Thieme earned second-place finishes, while Mattix Popp, Gavin Mitchell, Dylan Frost and Owen Butterfield finished third. Taking fourths were Isaiah Robinson, Wyatt Stearns, Liam Wagner, Lucas D’Avignon and Brian Newton.
Colchester finished second as a team, and Northeast Kingdom took third. Also competing were Essex, Hinesburg, Mount Abraham, Barre Youth Sports, Milton, Mount Mansfield and Granville, N.Y.
