Middlebury speedskater caps her winter season

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Middlebury Union High School sophomore Lacey Greenamyre recently finished speedskating for the winter. Here are some highlights from the last few weeks of her season.
On Feb. 11 and 12 Greenamyre placed 4th at U.S. Speedskating Long track Speedskating Age Group Nationals in Lake Placid, N.Y. On the 400-meter outdoor Oval there, temperatures for the age group meet was in the single digits with snow falling on and off. She was very close to the 3rd place skater in all 6 races.
She placed 3rd at the Charles Jewtraw All-Around Long-track Speedskating Championships in Lake Placid on Feb. 18-19. The Charles Jewtraw Race was 80 percent Canadian skaters. Organizers said they were fortunate to get the meet in with strong sunshine and temperatures in the 50s.
A day after the Charles Jewtraw race the Lake Placid Oval closed for the season due to mild weather.
Greenamyre finished the winter season with short track speedskating practice in Saratoga, N.Y., last week.
