Author to lead workshop for aspiring memoirists
VERGENNES — Bixby Library’s Writers Program will offer a free, eight-week workshop on writing memoirs. Kris Johannesson, who earned a Master’s in Fine Arts from Goddard College, will lead the workshop, which is titled “Memoir Writing 101.”
The class starts next Thursday, April 6, and will run Thursdays, 6-8 p.m., in the Otter Creek Room at the Bixby Memorial Free Library in Vergennes.
“Memoir Writing 101” will focus on all the components of writing a memoir, from developing storytelling skills to learning essential tips and techniques that adapt your life stories into a compelling memoir. Attention will be given to: writing scenes to craft your plot; defining the scope of your story; tracking time, the ethics surrounding writing about those close to you; and much more. This course is open to all from the curious beginner to the accomplished professional.
Johannesson has worked as an educator in alternative learning environments for more than 20 years. She currently lives in Vermont’s Champlain Valley, and continues her research into the writings and the authors of the Harlem Renaissance. She has published her poetry, essays and fiction in print and online. She is currently working on her second novel.
