Tiger skaters get postseason kudos
ESSEX — Five Middlebury Union High School seniors will lace up their skates on Saturday at Essex High School in the annual Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic, which pits teams of Vermont girls and boys all-stars against one another.
Tiger seniors Julia Carone, Monroe Cromis and Molly Wetmore will play for the Harris team in the girls’ game, which begins at 4 p.m.
Tiger seniors Andrew Gleason and Brett Viens will skate for the Austin team in the boys’ game, which starts at 6:15 p.m.
The teams are named after Rotary Club founders, and all proceeds from ticket, concession and T-shirt sales go to Essex Rotary Club service projects and scholarships at home and abroad.
In addition, MUHS junior girls’ hockey players Andi Boe, a forward, and Satchel McLaughlin, a defender, were named Division I first-team all-stars by the league’s coaches, while Carone, a forward, earned second-team honors.
On the boys’ side, Gleason, a defender, was named a second-team D-I all-star, and Viens, a forward, was named a D-I third-team all-star.
