Letter to the Editor: Grant supports Lincoln effort

Kudos to the Addison Independent for publishing such an in depth-article about this wonderful community project in the March 16 edition. Thank you!
One small caveat, and it has only to do with the headline, which read, “Quarter-million-dollar playground upgrade planned in Lincoln.” My concern is that people who didn’t read the article might have thought mistakenly that this project was going to be funded via taxes, which it most assuredly will not.
A more accurate headline — and one that would have reflected Gaen Murphree’s terrific article — might have been, “Lincoln awarded one-hundred-thousand-dollar grant!”
The fact is, a dedicated group has been working for years to turn an underutilized community property into a much-needed community resource. The Potato Hill Park and Playground will be a vibrant, outdoor recreation center that will draw people to the community, allow them to connect with one another, and provide diverse recreational opportunities for all. Over half of the funds have been raised already and the Lincoln Community School is launching a capital campaign to raise the rest.
