Panther runners earn All-American status
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Middlebury College 400-meter runner Jimmy Martinez and the men’s distance medley relay team of Nathan Hill, Alex Nichols, James Mulliken and Kevin Serrao earned All-American honors at the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, held on Friday and Saturday at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
During Saturday’s 400-meter championship final, Martinez finished in 49.41, good for sixth overall.
On Friday, the men’s DMR team took third place in 9:58.86. The DMR is run in legs of 800 meters, 400M, 1,200M and 1,600M.
Also on Friday, Maddie Pronovost set a school record in the pentathlon as she earned third place with 3,406 points. She started her day with a school-record time of 8.99 for 912 points in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second in the event. She won the long jump with a leap of 17’5.25’ for 645 points, while she tied for sixth in the high jump at 5’175” for 701 points. She was also sixth in the 800 in 2:27.12 for 729 points and was 15th in the shot put with a toss of 27’2.75” for 419 points.
The women’s DMR team of Sasha Whittle, Paige Fernandez, Meg Wilson and Anna Willig also qualified, and finished in 12:06.26 to place 11th. Panther sophomore Jon Perlman was 12th in the men’s mile in 4:17.07.
The Panthers will begin their outdoor season on March 25, when they head to California for a pair of meets at Point Loma Nazarene University.
