Brandon man accused of hitting child, faces felony charges
BRANDON — A Brandon man identified as a habitual offender with three previous felonies has been charged with three counts of felony aggravated domestic assault.
Brandon police responded to a report of a family fight in Bridge Park on Friday, March 10, and arrested Jeremy J. Young, 42.
The victim told police that Young pushed her down while she was holding their child, choked her, pulled a clump of her hair out, and pulled out one of her teeth with his bare hands.
The victim also claimed that Young threw a punch at her, missed, and hit the child.
According to individual affidavits, Brandon Police Officers Jonathan Butterfield and Katrina Ducharme stated that they witnessed the injuries, including bruised ribs on the child, and a swollen and bleeding mouth and bruising and swelling around the neck of the adult victim.
The victim alleged that after pushing her down and choking her, Young pried her mouth open with his hands and held it open for between 30 and 45 seconds and then she “felt her tooth tear from her gums,” according to the affidavit.
A tooth allegedly belonging to the victim was found on the bathroom floor at the scene and taken into evidence, according to the affidavit.
Young was charged with felony first degree aggravated domestic assault, cruelty to a child under 10 years of age, and two counts of felony second degree domestic assault-prior conviction.
Young has previous felony convictions for false pretenses, retail theft and grand larceny.
He pleaded not guilty on Monday in Rutland County Superior Court, criminal division. He is being held without bail at Marble Valley Correctional Facility. If convicted, Young faces up to life in prison for the domestic assault charges and up to two years or a fine of up to $5,000 for the cruelty to a child charge.
