Harp and Soul to perform at local schools in March

ADDISON COUNTY — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s “Harp and Soul” harp and flute duo will present performances at two Addison County elementary schools on March 21. The visits are sponsored by Neat Repeats Resale Shop.
Flutist Anne Janson and harpist Heidi Soons make up the dynamic SymphonyKids duo, “Harp & Soul.” In their fresh and engaging program, they explain how the harp and flute work and sound, including some of their special effects (glissandos, etc.). Several different kinds of each instrument will be demonstrated, and audience participation encouraged. The musicians perform some familiar music and talk about how their instruments are used in orchestral music. A no-holds-barred question and answer period concludes the program.
These performances are part of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s statewide SymphonyKids education program, which reached over 26,000 schoolchildren last year with 278 presentations serving 175 schools in 141 different towns. The VSO’s traveling ensembles visit all corners of the state as part of an outreach program known as the Lois H. McClure “Musicians-in-the-Schools” Program. These lively concerts are met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as the musical ambassadors spread the word that classical music can be fun!
Performance schedule:
Shoreham Elementary School, 10:45 a.m.
Mary Hogan Elementary School, 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.
The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is the only professional statewide orchestra providing live musical experiences for listeners in Vermont. It is a state-supported nonprofit institution founded in 1935 and exists for the purpose of fostering and encouraging the appreciation of music in all its various forms, with emphasis on orchestral, choral and chamber music.
