City man charged with burglary
VERGENNES — Vermont State Police with help from the Vergennes Police Department on Thursday arrested a Vergennes resident and charged him in connection with a Feb. 27 Ferrisburgh burglary and possession of what a VSP press release called a “host of stolen property from car smash-and-grabs at local trailheads” and “property from other area burglaries.”
On March 9 troopers arrested Jake F. Desjadon, 30, and cited him into court for burglary, grand larceny, selling stolen property, resisting arrest and unlawful mischief.
Desjadon was jailed for lack of $75,000 bail, and an arraignment was planned for Friday. VSP said more charges are expected as an investigation continues.
The arrest took place at Desjadon’s Main Street apartment. When VSP and Vergennes officers arrived, Desjadon had exited through a window and was hiding on a porch roof, according to Vergennes police, and he was arrested through the window.
The VSP investigation began, according to a press release, when an ATV and a trailer were stolen from a Ferrisburgh home. VSP said security cameras at the scene earlier that day identified Desjadon as a “person of interest.”
On this past Wednesday, VSP obtained a warrant and with help from city police searched a Main Street, Vergennes, storage unit maintained by Desjadon, and that search led to his arrest.
In their press release, VSP said they would like to “formally thank the Vergennes Police Department for their assistance with this case.”
Desjadon has appeared in past editions of the Addison Independent in the Vergennes and Middlebury police logs. In 2005, when he was 18, Desjadon pleaded guilty in Addison District Court to a charge of burglary in connection with a March 18, 2005, shooting incident in East Middlebury in which two men were shot and at least two others were injured during a violent melee at a small outbuilding off Route 125. He was sentenced to two to four years in jail, all suspended except one year, and ordered to testify truthfully in the cases against his co-defendants.
