ADDISON COUNTY — In high school girls’ basketball playoff action on Tuesday Vergennes and Otter Valley bowed out in Division II action.
Middlebury (13-7) earned the No. 9 seed in Division I and was set to take on No. 8 Colchester (13-7) on Wednesday after the deadline for this edition of the Independent. If the Tigers won they will travel to face top-seeded St. Johnsbury (19-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
COMMODORES
On Tuesday the Commodores hung with host No. 7 Fairfax for a half, trailing by just 26-20 at the break, but then the 17-4 Bullets pulled away for a 56-36 victory. Four Bullets scored between nine and 13 points in the win.
Brianna Van DerWey scored eight to lead the Commodores, who finished at 8-13.
OTTERS
Also on Tuesday, host No. 3 Fair Haven outlasted the No. 14 Otters, 32-26. Slater Adriana Dalto sank four three-pointers and scored 14, and teammate Halle Coloutti hit key free throws late and finished with 13 points.
The 16-5 Slaters will host No. 6 Mount Abraham (13-8) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Slaters defeated the Eagles, 37-23, at home early this season.
Gabriela Poalino scored seven to lead the Otters, whose latest in a series of strong defensive efforts this winter was not enough to prevent them from falling to the Slaters for a third time. OV finished at 7-14.
