VUHS is the only winner in local girls’ basketball action

ADDISON COUNTY — Only Vergennes won as all four local high school girls’ basketball teams hit the road late last week. Teams finish the regular season this week, and the Vermont Principals’ Association will announce playoff pairings next Monday.
The Commodores staved off winless Missisquoi, 46-43, on Thursday. Isabel Paquette scored 19 to help the T-Birds rally before VUHS (8-10) held on. Ciara McClay (12 points) and Morgan Lynk (11) paced VUHS, which will host Colchester on Monday and visit Mount Abe on Thursday.
On Thursday, host D-I Colchester defeated Mount Abe, 56-46, as Laker Gabby Gosselin scored 28. Emma Carter scored 20 as the Eagles dropped to 11-7 and into sixth place in Division II. Only 2.5 points separate fourth from seventh in D-II — Mount Abe could move up with home wins over MUHS on Monday and VUHS on Thursday.
On Friday host Windsor (15-3) defeated OV, 47-33. Courtney Bushey led a balanced OV attack with seven points. The Otters lost at D-I Mount Anthony on Saturday, 61-42; details on that game were unavailable.
OV (6-12) will host Hartford on Tuesday and visit Mill River on Friday.
On Wednesday, host Mount Mansfield (7-11) topped the Middlebury, 54-45, hurting the Tigers’ hopes to host a D-I playoff game. MUHS (11-7) fell to 11th with games left at Mount Abe on Monday and at North Country on Thursday. MUHS got 22 points from Keagan Dunbar and 10 from Payton Buxton.
