Ladies Night Out chorus to hold rehearsals for new season

MIDDLEBURY — Rutland County’s premier Women’s Chorus has expanded rehearsals to include Addison County area women singers.
This year the Ladies Night Out chorus is officially holding rehearsals in Middlebury at CVUUS on Wednesdays, 7:15-9 p.m., (except the third Wednesday of the month) through April. Concerts are in Middlebury on Tuesday, April 18, then in Brandon on Saturday, April 22 and in Rutland on Sunday, April 23.
Tim Guiles is engaged to rehearse the choir in Middlebury, and Rita Lane will rehearse in Rutland. At concert time the chorus will add Glendon Ingalls on bass and trumpet, and hopefully a drummer, yet to be determined.
The Ladies Night Out set list is quite eclectic, as the concert’s title, “Choir Favorites, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” indicates. On the list is a choral favorite by Felix Mendelssohn, “Lift Thine Eyes”; a Madrigal from the Renaissance, “Now is the Month of Maying,” which fills a beloved spot in every women’s choir; and jazz and 1950s pop classics including “Always,” “April in Paris” and “Begin the Beguine.”
Other favorites that the chorus may sing include “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Mr. Sandman,” “Steam Heat,” and “Old Irish Blessing.” Today’s arrangements of Spirituals/Shape Note Tradition by 20th century greats Andre Thomas and Alice Parker are represented by must-have choral repertoire, “Keep Your Lamps (Trimmed and Burning)” and “Hark! I Hear the Harps Eternal.”
All willing singers from the audience are welcome to come up on stage and sing with the group. Mostly the desire is to encourage women who have sung with the chorus in the past to remember the joys of being on stage and raising our voices together. Because once you’ve sung with the Ladies, you’ll always be one of the choir.
The public is invited to join Ladies’ Night Out Women’s Choir. Come to one rehearsal a week, wherever is most convenient for you to travel to. Those interested should contact Lucy Tenenbaum at 802-342-8348 or [email protected].
