Letter to the editor: City mayor has done a great job

Dear Editor, I know that there are many issues facing Addison County and Vermont in general. Attracting and retaining talent, protecting our environment and building the economy are chief among them.
I am writing to praise the Mayor of Vergennes, Bill Benton, who has worked to do all of these things in his tenure as Mayor. Recently he signed a proclamation declaring Vergennes the Sister City of Venice, Italy. While symbolic, this opens a door to tourism and culture here in Addison County. Recently he gave support to a local program to fight the heroin epidemic.
He does not shy away from the difficult challenges. He continues to work on the truck traffic issue with VTrans. The expansion of Vergennes activities and celebrations makes our area more attractive to young families and entrepreneurs. The Mayor is highly visible and approachable on all topics concerning the citizens of Vergennes.
In this very divisive political climate, it makes me proud to be a resident of a state where we work together to build a better life.  Bill Benton has my full support and trust!!!
