Letter to the editor: Bill S. 51 advances state’s renewable energy priorities

I remember in 1980, climate scientists calling for a switch to renewable energy sources. They hoped by 1990 we would have begun in earnest, and 37 years later we have started to gather momentum. With glaciers and the polar ice caps melting everywhere and with continuous record breaking warm years, it is about time we did more.
Vermont’s Clean Energy Plan seeks to have 90 percent renewable energy with an 80 percent decrease in fossil fuels as a reasonably achievable and necessary goal over the next 30 years. This is what Senate bill S.51 is about and I am happy that my Sen. Chris Bray is lead sponsor and my Sen. Claire Ayer is a strong supporter of this bill in response to climate change.
This bill is solid positive action that we need to respond to climate change and is why Vermonters must support this bill.
