Women’s Club of Vermont offering scholarships
ORWELL — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Vermont (GFWC-VT), which includes the Orwell Fortnightly Club, announces the availability of scholarships for Vermont women who have been homemakers and who have lost their main means of support through separation or divorce from their spouse or the death, disability or long-term unemployment of their spouse.
The scholarships range from $500 to $1,500. Women receiving the awards over the years have come from a wide range of towns in the state.
Eligible women are those in need of education or training to enter the work force. Applicants must submit a specific plan for their education or training.
Applications are due to Betty Haggerty by March 15; her contact information is listed below and on the application.
This is the 24th year of awarding this financial aid, which is funded through contributions from the state federated clubs and from individuals.
The scholarship is named Barbara Jean Barker, late of Poultney, who served as GFWC-VT president from 1992-1994, and who was instrumental in establishing the program.
Applications for the scholarship are available from Betty Haggerty, l6 Taylor St., Bellows Falls, VT 05101, [email protected], or 802-463-4159. They are also available through federated woman’s clubs in several Vermont towns. The scholarships will be awarded at the state federation’s annual meeting in early May.
