Letter to the editor: Havurah pans Trump order
Havurah, the Addison County Jewish Congregation, is profoundly troubled by the anti-immigrant and anti-refugee rhetoric and action coming from the Trump administration. Many of our families came to this country as refugees or immigrants, fleeing persecution and terror, just as refugees are today.
We believe that America is — and must remain — a land of freedom and opportunity for ALL people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender or LGBTQ identity. We must unite and stand up for these principles, despite our differences.
In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” We must come together, and pledge our support to all newcomers to this country: You are welcome here.
Sarit Katzew, on behalf of the Leadership of Havurah Middlebury
