In high school boys’ hoop: Otters, Tigers claim wins

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school boys’ basketball play in the latter half of last week, Middlebury split a pair of close games and Otter Valley picked up a big win, but Vergennes and Mount Abraham each cropped a pair of contests.

On Saturday, the Tigers outscored host Milton, 9-3, in the final two minutes to snap a 62-62 tie and win, 71-63. J.D. Goettelman (seven points) grabbed three offensive boards and Cody Pomainville (22 points, four three-pointers) came up with a key steal down the stretch. Kaufmann tossed in a season-high 29 points to lead the attack and put MUHS on top for good, 66-65, and Pierson Beatty chipped in eight as MUHS improved to 2-11.
Milton’s Ryan Brown scored his 1,000th point and gave Milton (7-6) a late lead.
