Letter to the editor: Card game as politics metaphor
When I was a child, my parents introduced me to the game of bridge. Though other interests have consumed my attention over the years, I regularly read a bridge column in a newspaper and find it fascinating. Bridge requires good communication with a partner and looking ahead and planning a long-range strategy. Every move counts.
These qualities and efforts were never more important in real life. Since the recent presidential election, I have been thinking that bridge players must really want to bid NO TRUMP. With all the “tricks” that are being played on Americans by our new president, bridge players must try hard to take as many No Trump tricks as they can.
And, the aim must be a Grand Slam, bidding and winning seven no trump. Then we could get new players at the table who would play fair and give a chance for success even to those who are not dealt a great hand in life.
