Basketball Wrap-Up: Girls’ hoop teams all post recent victories

ADDISON COUNTY — Local high school girls’ basketball teams all found success recently: Otter Valley won twice to reach .500, and Middlebury, Mount Abraham and Vergennes all won home games.
OTTERS
On Saturday, OV held on to defeat visiting Brattleboro, 40-32, after taking a 35-15 halftime lead. Julia Lee hit three three-pointers and scored 14 points to lead the Otters, while Courtney Bushey with (eight points) and Sophie Markowski (seven points) also chipped in to the attack.
On Monday, OV again started quickly against visiting Proctor in a 40-24 win. In improving to 5-5 with their third straight win the Otters took an early 11-2 advantage on the way to a 20-9 lead at the break. Gabriela Poalino (12), Bushey (nine) and Lee (eight) supplied points as the Otter defense held a foe to fewer than 40 points for the fourth time in five outings.
TIGERS
On Tuesday, MUHS took a 32-17 halftime lead on the way to a 47-37 victory over visiting Mount Mansfield (4-8). Keagan Dunbar (19 points) and Payton Buxton (12) led the attack, and Riley Fenster grabbed 12 rebounds as the Tigers improved to 8-3, good for eighth place in Division I as of Wednesday. Katie Estes scored 19 points for the Cougars.
EAGLES
On Tuesday, Emma Carter (27) and Jalen Cook (22) combined for 49 points as the host Eagles dispatched Colchester, 57-42. Vanessa Dykstra andEmma LaRose set up many of their hoops with six assists apiece as the Eagles improved to 7-5, good for sixth in D-II on Wednesday. Gabby Gosselin scored 19 points for the 6-6 Lakers.
COMMODORES
On Wednesday, the Commodores snapped a two-game skid by coasting past visiting Missisquoi, 44-27. VUHS outscored MVU by 19-4 in the second quarter to take charge. Morgan Lynk led a balanced VUHS attack with 10 points, and Xzavia Berry pulled down 13 rebounds.
