Tiger girls’ hockey remain unbeaten
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team remained unbeaten with a pair of victories last week. The 7-0-1 Tigers are locked in a battle for the top spot in Division I with Essex (8-1) and Rutland (8-1-1).
The Tigers have tied Rutland on the road and will visit four-time champion Essex on Saturday in the first meeting this winter between the programs. Essex defeated host Rutland, 3-1, on Saturday, and the Hornets’ lone loss came in their opener to Beekmantown, N.Y.
On this past Wednesday, the Tigers earned a 4-0 victory over visiting Burlington-Colchester. Rowan Hendy backstopped the win with 13 saves. Julia Carone gave MUHS a 2-0 first-period lead with a pair of goals, and Kate Donahue and Lexi Bartlett added goals in the second period. Andi Boe chipped in a pair of assists for MUHS. Goalie Jenna Blondin stopped 45 shots for the 3-5-1 SeaLakers.
On Saturday, the Tigers picked up their fifth-straight shutout, 7-0, over visiting Northfield (3-6). Helen Anderson scored twice, Carone and Boe notched a goal and two assists apiece, Tulley Hescock scored a goal and assisted another, Molly Wetmore and Georgina Mraz and Molly Wetmore found the net once each, and Monroe Cromis racked up five assists.
Hendy worked a five-save shutout, and Northfield goalie Analiese Morvan made 32 saves.
