Police looking for Middlebury man wanted on assault charges

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police are on the lookout for 46-year-old Christopher L. Ardell of Middlebury after he failed to appear at a court hearing where he was to be arraigned on several charges of assault — including assaulting a police officer.
Police said it was at around 8:35 p.m. last Wednesday, Jan. 11, that they received a call about a possible domestic disturbance at a Seymour Street apartment. Police interviewed the victim, who alleged she had been assaulted and injured by her partner — Ardell — who was still in the home.
When police attempted to take Ardell into custody, Ardell assaulted and injured two officers, according to police. Authorities ultimately subdued Ardell and took him into custody.
Per a judge’s order, police released Ardell after citing him for first-degree aggravated domestic assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest. Ardell failed to appear at his scheduled Jan. 12 arraignment at the Frank Mahady Courthouse, and his family is now concerned about his welfare, police said in a press release issued over the weekend.
A warrant has been issued for Ardell’s arrest, according to police, who urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to call them at 388-3191.
