BRISTOL — Bristol police cited Billie Jene Laflam, 43, of Bristol for embezzlement from a local business on Dec. 22.
At the time of the alleged embezzlement in Bristol, Laflam was under supervised release for a 2014 federal wire fraud conviction. Laflam was also convicted of embezzlement in Chittenden County in 2009.
Police reported the sum involved in this most recent case was “in excess of $100,” making it a felony.
According to a Bristol police press release, the local business owner had been noticing a shortchange in cash that correlated to hours being worked by “a couple of employees,” including Laflam. Under questioning by a Bristol officer, Laflam admitted to stealing from her Bristol employer, the press release said.
Bristol Officer Josh Otey said the investigation is ongoing, and that Laflam is scheduled to answer the charge in Addison County Superior Court, criminal division, on Feb. 6.
Meanwhile, Bristol police collaborated with staff at Bristol Elementary School on aspects of the Bristol and Middlebury police departments’ annual holiday toy drive, on Dec. 19 and 21.
In other recent activity, Bristol police:
•  Assisted Vermont State Police with an investigation by obtaining a surveillance video from a West Street business, on Dec. 19.
•  Worked out of the Bristol police space at Bristol Elementary, interacting with students and staff in the lunchroom and hallways, on Dec. 19.
•  Conducted a forensic review of a digital device related to an on-going investigation by the Addison Unit for Special Investigations on Dec. 20.
•  Served a citation to a Mountain View Street resident at the request of state police on Dec. 20.
•  Took a person’s fingerprints for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System on Dec. 20.
•  Investigated a 911 hang-up on Dec. 21.
•  Responded on Dec. 21 at 9:21 a.m., to Mount Abraham Union High School, where a male student was reportedly being disruptive and refusing to comply with staff instructions. Police escorted the student from the building and transported him home.
•  Conducted 30 minutes of town-contracted traffic patrol on Stoney Hill Road on Dec. 21. Police issued one warning for defective equipment.
•  Took Bristol Elementary students on a tour of the police station on Dec. 22.
•  Ticketed a vehicle blocking a sidewalk near a West Street residence on Dec. 22. The vehicle’s owner told police that he had a wrecker on the way to take the vehicle for scrap.
•  Provided security and patrolled a Mount Abe basketball game on Dec. 22.
•  Advised a local resident who reported a neighbor making inappropriate remarks and gestures toward them to apply for a civil order through Addison Superior Court, on Dec. 23.
•  Patrolled the Bristol town green during an advertised fire performance, which drew a large crowd, on Dec. 23.
•  Responded to a two-vehicle crash on Prince Lane on Dec. 24 at 11:36 a.m. There were no injuries.
•  On Dec. 24 conducted 45 minutes of town-contracted patrol on Monkton Road. Police issued three warnings for speeding.
•  On Dec. 25 cited Victor Dogah, 32, of Bristol for driving with a criminally suspended license and violating conditions of release. Police report that just after midnight they saw Dogah driving on West Street, stopped her vehicle, and cited her.
•  On Dec. 26 cited Kimberly Usher, 56, of Bristol for assault. Police were dispatched to Porter Medical Center on Dec. 25 to interview a subject who reported being assaulted at a South Street residence on Dec. 24. Bristol police said that Usher admitted to involvement with the incident on Dec. 26. She was arrested and released on a citation to answer the charge in Addison Superior Court, criminal division.
•  On Dec. 27 arrested Dakota Yankton, 31, for failure to appear at his arraignment. Police transported Yankton to Addison Superior Court, where he posted bail and was released on a citation to appear at a later date.
•  On Dec. 29 at 1:20 a.m. responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. Police arrested Charles Brutkoski, 60, of Bristol, took him to the Bristol Police Department and cited him for domestic assault and interference with access to emergency services. Brutkoski posted a $500 personal recognizance bond and was released.
