VERGENNES — Vergennes police continue to hand out tickets for violators of the city’s wintertime ban on overnight parking on city streets.
Between Dec. 19 and 25, police ticketed 13 vehicles left on city streets between the hours of 2:30 and 6:30 a.m., at a charge of $25 per ticket. Police ticketed two cars on Dec. 20, one on Dec. 21, three on Dec. 22 and seven on Dec. 24.
None were towed because there were no snow emergencies; car owners are also liable for towing fees if city workers are plowing on evenings cars are illegally parked.
In other action during those seven days, Vergennes police:
•  On Dec. 19 were told by a Green Street resident that a vehicle struck a sign, and that its operator had bent the sign back into shape. Police said public works OK’d the repair.
•  On Dec. 20 were told by a Main Street resident that between $80 and $100 in rolled quarters had been stolen from a locked dresser drawer.
•  On Dec. 21 spoke to a man panhandling near Shaw’s Supermarket and Kinney Drug Store that a resident alleged had argued with him. Police said the man was leaving anyway, but they warned him not to argue with residents.
•  On Dec. 21 cited Malissa Crowl, 45, of Vergennes for driving under the influence of alcohol after stopping her vehicle near the intersection of Route 7 and Monkton Road. Police said they pulled her over because she pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer truck and because her car had a headlight out. They allege her blood-alcohol content tested at 0.09; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
•  On Dec. 22 looked unsuccessfully for an individual who knocked on a West Main Street door at about 12:25 a.m.
•  On Dec. 22 ticketed a New Jersey resident for driving with a suspended license, an action taken at a Route 7 traffic stop prompted by a call from a citizen who said a vehicle was being driven erratically.
•  On Dec. 23 asked a Sunset Drive resident not to use a garage wood stove because the smoke was disturbing a nearby neighbor undergoing hospice care, a request that was complied with and was made by the neighbor’s family.
•  On Dec. 24 cited John Quesnel, 53, of Cornwall for driving with a suspended license, criminal offense, after a Route 7 traffic stop. Police said Quesnel was driving in violation of an order that required him to operate only a vehicle with an ignition interlock device. 
•  On Dec. 24 were alerted that a used hypodermic syringe had been found in the Shaw’s parking lot.
