Boys’ hockey wins; hosting tournament
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team on Dec. 20 rallied for its first win of the season, 2-1, over host Lake Placid.
Lake Placid scored in the first period, but the Tigers (1-2 heading into Wednesday) tallied twice in the third period to pull out the victory.
Brett Viens equalized 3:30 in the third period, with assists from Devon Kearns and Krystian Gombosi.
Jake Peluso netted the game-winner with 2:09 left in regulation, with helpers from Henry Hodde and Gombosi.
The Tigers outshot the Bombers, 31-20. MUHS goalie Doug DeLorenzo made 19 saves, and Lake Placid goalie Kamm Cassidy stopped 29 shots.
The Tigers were set to host Stowe on Wednesday in the first round in their annual holiday tournament, and on Thursday at the Memorial Sports Center a rematch with Lake Placid is set for 7 p.m.
