Boys’ hoops: OV the only winner
ADDISON COUNTY — In high school boys’ basketball action late last week, Otter Valley split a pair of games, while Vergennes and Mount Abraham came up short.
Middlebury was idle. The Tigers will host OV on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
OTTERS
On Thursday, former three-year varsity Otter player Kai Norwood poured in a game-high 23 points as Mount St. Joseph knocked off OV, 61-46 in the first round of Proctor’s season-opening four-team tournament. Jelani Williams added 20 for the Mounties.
Dylan Mackie scored 18 to lead the Otters, Derek Aines added 10, and Payson Williams chipped in eight.
On Friday, the Otters evened their record at 1-1 by hanging on for a 37-35 victory over Twin Valley in the tournament consolation game. Coach Greg Hughes gave credit to the Otters for grinding out the win. Aines led OV with 17 points.
The Otters play at Mount Abe on Thursday as well as at MUHS on Tuesday.
EAGLES
On Friday, host Fair Haven defeated the Eagles, 72-63 in a competitive game that was the Slaters’ season opener. Darren Brown (25) and Cam Coloutti (16) paced the Slaters.
Four players reached double figures for the 1-1 Eagles: Chris Wood (17), Jackson Counter (12), Jack Willis (11) and Coleman Russell (10).
Mount Abe plays at Winooski this Monday before hosting the Otters at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
COMMODORES
On Friday, visiting South Burlington (2-0) ran past the Commodores, 75-44. The Rebels broke open the game with a 22-3 run to conclude the first half. Lance Bergmans (13 points and 13 rebounds) and Adam Gill (15 points) led the Commodores, who dropped to 0-2 heading into games at Lake Region on Tuesday and Fairfax on Friday.
