Vergennes Police Log: City police enforce winter parking ban
VERGENNES — Vergennes police between Dec. 5 and 11 ticketed 17 vehicles in violation of the city’s winter ban on overnight street parking and ordered three of the vehicles towed.
On Dec. 5 Vergennes police ticketed one vehicle, on Dec. 7 they ticketed and ordered to be towed three vehicles, on Dec. 9 they ticketed four vehicles, on Dec. 10 six violators were ticketed, and on Dec. 11 they issued three more tickets.
Vergennes bans parking on city streets between the hours of 2 and 6:30 a.m. from Dec. 1 to March 30.
In other action between Dec. 5 and 11, Vergennes police:
• On Dec. 5 responded to a two-vehicle accident on the eastbound slope up from the bridge over Otter Creek. Police said a truck failed to make it up the hill and slid backward, coming to rest against the curb. A car then tried to drive around the truck, but could not make it up the slope and slid down backward into the truck.
• On Dec. 6 tried unsuccessfully to find a sick fox seen on Thomas Circle.
• On Dec. 6 were told that one car had apparently struck another and left the scene, possibly in the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot.
• On Dec. 7 cited Kathleen Ayers, 48, of Vergennes for driving with a criminally suspended license, an action taken after stopping her car for defective equipment.
• On Dec. 7 ticketed and grounded the driver of a truck carrying hazardous materials for failing to stop at the railroad crossing on Route 7 next to the city.
• On Dec. 8 went to the High Manor Park trailer park in Waltham to aid Vermont State Police with a resident who had apparently overdosed on alcohol and prescription drugs.
• On Dec. 9 dealt with a minor accident at Champlain Farms on Main Street; police said a car slid into the store’s ice machine.
• On Dec. 9 attempted to file a relief-from-abuse order, but learned the intended recipient no longer lived at the address they were given.
• On Dec. 9 helped state police by attempting to check the welfare of a Waltham resident, who was not home.
• On Dec. 10 spoke to a neighbor of Champlain Farms who owns chickens about a trash bag with wood shavings and blood in it.
• On Dec. 11 responded to a report of a couple arguing in a Champlain Farms rest room and eventually charged the woman involved with driving under the influence of alcohol, test refusal, after learning she had driven the couple there. Cited was Crystal G. Perry, 28, of Ferrisburgh.
