Man killed in a Middlebury house fire Wednesday

MIDDLEBURY — A 96-year-old man lost his life in a fire at his home on Murdock Court in Middlebury on Wednesday evening.
The Middlebury Fire Department received a call reporting a fire at 7 Murdock Court — off Weybridge Street — at a little past 7:30 p.m. The call came from a family member who came home and found the house filled with smoke. He informed authorities that the man may be inside.
At least 10 fire trucks from Middlebury, New Haven and Weybridge responded to the scene. By the time they arrived the blaze was visible to neighbors, and firefighters immediately started battling the fire.
It took a few minutes for the fire teams to get the fire under control, but once they did they were able to get inside and find the deceased remains of Bob Kellogg.
Neighbors, who said Kellogg was well loved in the community, rallied to help the family member who had not only just lost a loved one but also found himself homeless. They offered food, a place to stay and what comforts they could.
