Letter to the editor: Museum plan unfairly rejected

I was sorely disappointed when I read in your paper how the Bristol selectboard rejected the offer of the gentleman who wanted to buy the old fire station and make it into an antique woodworking machinery museum. Whatever happened to “a bird in the hand…?”
As I understand it, it was clearly stipulated in the sales agreement that the structure would be restored to its original appearance. It also seems to me that the proposed use would be very much in keeping with the woodworking heritage Bristol is famous for. As a woodworker myself, I would enjoy having such a museum in town and would proudly bring friends and visitors to see it.
I hope the selectboard reconsiders their decision and chooses to encourage enterprising citizens who have the good of the community at heart.
