ANWSD to hear teacher salary pitch

VERGENNES — Teacher representatives of the Addison Northwest Teachers’ Association (ANTA) are scheduled to present their proposals regarding salary, benefits including health insurance, and grievance procedures for the 2017-2018 school year at the next meeting of the negotiation committee. That meeting will take place next Monday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m. in the Vergennes Union High School library.
This will be the 5th negotiation meeting between the Addison Northwest School District and ANTA. The board’s proposal, delivered at the Oct. 25 meeting, included articles on rates of pay, hours of work, health insurance and grievance procedures. The Dec. 19 will be ANTA’s first response.
Although teacher contract negotiations have historically been held behind closed doors, the ANWSD Board has said that its members believe that the public interest is best served through transparency. Therefore, the board has decided to hold these negotiation meetings in public.
The board has hired a consultant to get out the word encouraging residents of Addison, Ferrisburgh, Panton, Vergennes and Waltham to take advantage of this opportunity to engage with the future of our children’s education by attending contract negotiation meetings.
