MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated two separate reports of tires being slashed on vehicles parked off Seminary Street Extension on Dec. 1. Both vehicles belonged to people who were hiking in Means Woods. One of the vehicles had two tires slashed, while the other had all four tires put out of commission, according to police.
That same day, police were informed that someone had slashed a tire on a vehicle parked on Middlebury College’s Old Chapel Road. It was unknown if these incidents were related.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Helped state police with a suicidal, mental health patient in the Lake Dunmore Road area of Salisbury on Nov. 28.
•  Returned two truant students back to Middlebury Union High School on Nov. 28.
•  Went to the Ilsley Library on Nov. 28 on a request by staff that a man be removed from the premises.
•  Heard allegations from a parent on Nov. 28 that some students at MUHS had been selling marijuana.
•  Broke up a verbal dispute between a man and woman at the intersection of Brookside and Buttolph drives on Nov. 29.
•  Gave a distraught woman a ride home after she had lost her shoes on South Street on Nov. 29.
•  Assisted Porter Hospital staff with some people who were having an argument in the lobby on Nov. 29.
•  Took a Jackson Lane resident to Porter Hospital after she had allegedly suffered a mental health episode on Nov. 29.
•  Took an MUHS student to the Counseling Service of Addison County offices following a Nov. 29 incident.
•  Responded to a report of a parent aggressively confronting a Bet-Cha Transit school bus driver at MUHS on Nov. 29. Police said the parent’s actions impeded students from exiting the school bus.
•  Assisted the Vermont Department for Children & Families in checking on the welfare of a child at a Seminary Street Extension home on Nov. 30.
•  Asked four men to leave Triangle Park on Nov. 30 after they had allegedly been swearing at passing drivers on Merchants Row.
•  Checked the welfare of a Jayne Court resident who was allegedly considering self-harm on Dec. 1. Police said they found the man to be “somewhat intoxicated, but otherwise OK.”
•  Heard from a local resident who alleged someone had fraudulently diverted funds from a Go Fund Me fundraising account on Dec. 1.
•  Cited Dale Vanleuven, 56, of Bristol for driving under the influence, after a Vermont State Police trooper at the Addison County Courthouse reported a potentially drunken driver pull into the parking lot on Dec. 1. Police said they measured Vanleuven’s blood-alcohol content at 0.142 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Court Street apartment building on Dec. 2.
•  Issued a no-trespass order to a man whom police said had become belligerent and refused to leave Shaw’s Supermarket after being refused alcohol on Dec. 2.
•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local man near Weybridge Street on Dec. 2.
•  Served a no-trespass order on a local man after he allegedly threatened a bank employee on Court Street on Dec. 2.
•  Ticketed a juvenile for being a minor in possession of tobacco on Charles Avenue on Dec. 2.
•  Helped Middlebury Regional EMS with a drunken woman on Water Street on Dec. 2.
•  Turned a drunken man over to a sober person on Dec. 3.
•  Investigated a report of an underage drinking party at a Halladay Road home on Dec. 3. Police said several people fled the area when they arrived. Those who remained at the scene were of legal drinking age, according to police.
•  Responded to a report of a drunken man standing at a Seymour Street resident’s front door at around 4 a.m. on Dec. 3. Police said the man had left upon their arrival.
•  Checked the welfare of a man thought to be suicidal on Dec. 4.
•  Heard from an East Middlebury resident who on Dec. 4 alleged that a caller had tried to scam her out of some money.
•  Were informed of the theft of two chainsaws, a pair of chaps, and two gas cans from an unlocked garage off Case Street on Dec. 4.
•  Cited Stephen T. Myhre Jr., 49, of South Burlington for driving under the influence, following a stop for defective equipment on Court Street on Dec. 4. Police said they measured Myhre’s blood-alcohol content at 0.069 percent. Although his blood alcohol content was below the 0.08 standard for drunk driving, police felt he demonstrated cause for the citation and ultimately it will be up to the state’s attorney whether to pursue charges.
