VERGENNES — Vergennes police issued two citations for driving under the influence of alcohol between Nov. 14 and 20, when they also cited a third driver for being under the influence of drugs.
The first DUI case came on Nov. 18, when police cited Marlena Laws, 24, of Vergennes. Police allege that she was impaired when she arrived at the Champlain Farms store on Main Street and that her blood-alcohol content tested at 0.178. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.
On Friday, Nov. 19, police responded to a fender-bender near the City Limits nightclub on Green Street. They cited a driver who they said backed into another car, Christopher Jerome, 26, of Bristol for DUI and alleged that his BAC tested at 0.241.
On Saturday, police issued three citations to Andrew C. Neil, 44, of Starksboro: DUI No. 3, for operating under the influence of drugs; driving with a suspended license, criminal offense; and violating the conditions of his release from jail.
In other incidents between Nov. 14 and 20, Vergennes police:
•  On Nov. 14 conducted directed patrols near the East Street and New Haven Road crosswalks, the first of several during the week.
•  On Nov. 14 dealt with a loose dog complaint in the Booth Woods area.
•  On Nov. 14 calmed a dispute among North Green Street neighbors.
•  On Nov. 15 dealt with a minor two-car accident on South Water Street.
•  On Nov. 15 looked for a man reported to be walking down Main Street yelling; police could not find him, but believe they knew who it was and told the Counseling Service of Addison County.
•  On Nov. 15 cited a motorist for failing to yield at a stop sign, possession of drug paraphernalia, and having an open container of beer.
•  On Nov. 15 looked unsuccessfully for a man reported to be loitering around the Congregational Church on South Water Street.
•  On Nov. 18 searched unsuccessfully for a driver on Route 22A reported to be using a cell phone.
•  On Nov. 18 backed up Vermont State Police on Route 7 in Waltham at a traffic stop at which illegally obtained prescription drugs were seized.
•  On Nov. 18 were told marijuana was being smoked in the presence of young children in a School Street apartment; police could not contact anyone there.
•  On Nov. 19 backed up VSP on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, where a drunken and disorderly passenger was creating a disturbance on an ACTR bus and had to be removed; city police said VSP might have issued citations.
•  On Nov. 20 backed up VSP at an accident on Route 17 in Addison in which alcohol might have been a factor.
