Letter to the editor: Acts of hatred not acceptable
On Monday morning, Nov. 14, the Educational Director of Havurah, the Addison County Jewish Congregation, discovered two swastikas painted on the front door of our building in Middlebury. This outrageous act of hatred deserves to be known by all who care about Addison County, Vermont and our country. It is a horrifying incident that not merely causes pain, it tears at the fabric of our community and beyond.
Please join me in letting the world know what happened here. It is human to get angry. But acts of hatred are not acceptable. Let each of us reach out to those whose suffering leads them to strike out at others. Their behavior cleaves their own society and makes our working together more difficult. But we must try to do so.
