Rotary offers time abroad to local students

MIDDLEBURY — High school students who want to expand their knowledge of another language and culture are invited to apply to Rotary International’s Foreign Youth Exchange program.
Students may choose an entire year abroad or a 3-week exchange in the summer of 2017. The application deadline is Dec. 1. Rotary values international exchanges and wants to make this opportunity available to all high school students in Addison County.
A more local option, with no cost at all, is an exchange with a student in Sherbrooke, Quebec for students taking French language instruction. Deadline application for this is March 1.
“This is a great opportunity for students studying French to meet students their own age who are studying English,” said club president Ben Fuller. “We had a student at MUHS participate in our first local exchange this past summer and we hope we can get two or three students for next summer.”
High school students who have completed a minimum of one year of French and who want to experience life in a French speaking household are encouraged to sign up for the Rotary Club of Middlebury’s youth exchange program with the Rotary Club of Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Students will be matched with a high school student in Sherbrooke, stay in his/her home the last two weeks of July, and then host the Quebec student in their Addison County home the first two weeks of August.
Rotary will organize the exchanges and provide transportation. Other than hosting another student, there is no cost to students.
