Local kids to take the stage with ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’

BRANDON — Everyone knows Roald Dahl’s classic story of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Perhaps the widespread, beloved reputation of this delicious tale is why it’s so fun to put a new spin on things.
In 1976, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book by Richard George was first published. Mr. George had adapted the story into a play, which Mr. Dahl readily approved.
Now, 40 years later in 2016, a group of kids from the Addison County Homeschoolers prepare to put their own spin on things.  For two months, over 20 talented actors and actresses, ranging in age from six to sixteen, have worked hard memorizing lines, building sets and putting together costumes. Now, the time has almost arrived.  Mr. Willy Wonka and his weird and wonderful factory will be brought to life once again at the Brandon Town Hall on Friday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m.
The play will include all of the things that endear the book to us, such as the chocolate room, oompa loompas, and the great glass elevator. It will also include songs from the original motion picture, such as “Pure Imagination” and “I Want It Now.”
Our theatre group has had fun working on this production, and we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have!
