Panther assistant coach wins national recognition

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College women’s lacrosse assistant coach Alice Lee has been named the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III National Assistant Coach of the Year. Lee helped steer the Panthers this past spring to a 22-1 record en route to capturing the Division III National Championship.
One of Lee’s many duties for the Panthers includes serving as the program’s goalkeeper coach. This past season, she tutored recent graduate Katie Mandigo, a Cornwall resident, who was named the NCAA Division III tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
Middlebury Head Coach Kate Livesay praised Lee’s work.
“Alice has an enthusiasm for lacrosse that is unmatched,” Livesay said. “Her passion and energy for the game create a uniquely positive and inspiring environment for her players. She is devoted to her team, and willing to do the big and small tasks that help a program run smoothly. Her selflessness and her commitment to Middlebury lacrosse have made a huge impact on our team and our program.”
The Panther women’s lacrosse team set records while winning the title in 2016 season, including establishing a single-season record for wins with 22 (22-1) in the national championship game victory. Middlebury also set a program record for goals in a season (312) and concluded the spring on a 12-game winning streak on its way to its sixth national championship.
Lee and the other honorees will be recognized at the IWLCA Honors Banquet held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort on Nov. 17 in conjunction with the association’s annual meeting.
