Letter to the editor: A reflection on Halloween and on this year’s election

This year the calendar makes perfect sense:
Election Day and Hallowe’en are close.
For 18 months we’ve had a hefty dose
Of vitriol and wickedness immense.
But each November all the ghouls go hence;
We take down sheets and jack o’lanterns gross.
If Hallowe’en has left us comatose,
At least no one has taken great offense.
Will we this year be able to remove
The evil from our natures late released?
Will we be able once again to prove
That we are masters o’er our inner beast?
Let not the horrors of this time go on,
Lest all the marks of culture soon be gone.
Larry Jones
