Learn about hedgerows at New Haven talk
NEW HAVEN — Mark Krawczyk will deliver a talk called “Hedgerows and New Haven” this Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. at the New Haven Town Office. The presentation is sponsored by the New Haven Conservation Commission.
Hedgerows have played an important role in agrarian landscapes around the world for hundreds of years. These remnants of past land use patterns, refugia of biological diversity, invaluable wildlife corridors, impediments to wind and sun, and stores of resources from trees and shrubs often lie overlooked as we survey the biological resources in our communities.
Come learn about the history of hedgerows both at home and abroad, their utility and function for humans and wildlife, and learn about several intact hedgerows in New Haven, both old and new.
Krawczyk is a local ecological designer, consultant, woodworker, builder and educator.
