Otter field hockey rallies past Patriots
BRANDON — The Otter Valley Union High School field hockey team rallied past visiting Division I foe Mount Anthony on Tuesday, 2-1, to improve to 7-5.
The win moved the defending D-II champion Otters, unofficially, into fourth place in the standings on Tuesday, one point ahead of Mount Abraham.
Each team had two more games before a possible quarterfinal collision that would be a rematch of the 2015 final. The Otters will visit D-I Rutland on Friday and host D-II foe Woodstock on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The 5-6-1 Eagles were set to host Champlain Valley on Wednesday after the deadline for the Independent and will host Middlebury on Friday. They have the potential to reap more quality points than OV because both of those opponents are D-I teams.
The Vermont Principals’ Association will announce pairings on Monday.
On this past Tuesday, the 2-8-2 Mount Anthony Patriots took the lead midway through the first half on their only shot on goal in the game.
OV middie Sophie Bloomer tied the game at 22:40 of the second half, and Allison Lowell put home the game-winner with 5:32 to go, with Livia Bernhardt providing the assist.
The Otters had edges of 7-1 in shots on goal and 9-5 in penalty corners.
