Letter to the editor: Fellow House member supports Bristol incumbent

The voters of Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton and Starksborowere well represented by Rep. Fred Baser in his first biennium serving as your state representative. Fred and I had the opportunity to spend much of the last two years together in the House Commerce Committee. I’m an Independent, and was especially impressed by Fred’s integrity, his careful and respectful listening and thoughtful and knowledgeable questioning for each and every issue brought in front of our committee.
Witnesses in our committee, legislators of every political persuasion and members of the administration all received Fred’s careful attention and critical thinking when they brought a challenge or opportunity to our committee. Fred earned a reputation for being a collaborator, someone who would roll up his sleeves and work hard with others from across the political spectrum in both the House and Senate looking to solve thorny problems.
Last year he shepherded an important workforce housing legislative initiative with House leadership, legislators and private citizens through most of the session, learning in the final days of the session that funding wouldn’t be available this year to get the initiative off the ground.
Many across the state and in the legislator are hoping to work with Fred on this important legislation in the next biennium.Rep. Fred Baser is a class act, hardworking and collaborative. I hope voters in your towns will consider returning him to the House.
Rep. Laura Sibilia
Dover
