Opinion: Republican to vote for Clinton
As a responsible Republican I am planning to vote for Hillary in November for the good of my party. As a fiscal conservative and social liberal I have held my nose to the anachronistic hillbilly stance of many candidates for many years. The evolution to an intolerable level of irresponsible behavior has culminated with the nomination of a certifiable lunatic by the name of Donald Trump.
The party is in shambles and Trump would be the last nail of the pine box the party has climbed into. With our primitive two party system, a Trump presidency would all but assure a one party government. The current fiscal mess in Vermont is a warning to all Americans as to how dangerous one party rule is to fiscal solvency and the most vulnerable among us, as public funds dry up due to excessive and punitive taxation forcing many of us to move elsewhere.
A Republican voting for Trump is a checkers move. A vote for Hillary is a chess move and represents the last hope for the party that at one time nominated a man named Abraham Lincoln.
