Area soccer teams fail to nab victories

ADDISON COUNTY — The Vergennes boys’ and girls’ soccer teams and the Otter Valley boys all dropped games in high school action earlier this week.
The Mount Abraham boys’ Tuesday home game vs. Green Mountain Valley was canceled.
VUHS BOYS
On Monday, visiting Milton scored three times in the final five minutes of the first half on the way to a 4-0 win over the Commodore boys. Goalie Ethan Sausville stopped seven shots as VUHS dropped back to 5-5-1.
OV BOYS
On Monday, host West Rutland blanked the OV boys, 7-0. Coach Dick Williams said West Rutland went ahead early and then took advantage of the Otters when he shifted his formation in order to create more offense. OV fell to 3-8-1.
VUHS GIRLS
On Tuesday, visiting Milton improved to 9-2 by defeating the VUHS girls, 3-1. Milton scored twice in the first half, including a goal in the final minute, to lead at the break, 2-0, and added to the lead before Ciara McClay found the net for the Commodores, assisted by Caroline Johnston. Goalie Anya Sonwaldt made six saves for the 4-6-1 Commodores, while Madison North stopped eight shots for Milton.
