Panther golfers fourth in NESCAC event
MIDDLEBURY — On a Sunday at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on which just two strokes separated the top four teams, Williams College won the 2016-2017 NESCAC Men’s Golf Qualifier and will host the league championship next spring. Defending champion Middlebury finished fourth, two shots back, and qualified to compete for the title in the spring.
The Ephs and Trinity both finished with a two-day total of 585, with Williams winning the tiebreaker via the best score between the fifth golfers on Sunday. The Bantams (585), Amherst (586) and Middlebury (587) rounded out the field of four that will take part in the spring championship.
Pacing the Ephs were Will Kannegieser (74-71) and Grant Raffel (70-75), who each carded two-day totals of 145. Cameron Clark of Amherst took home medalist honors with a 139, including a 69 on day one. Will Rosenfield of Trinity placed second at 140, including a tournament-best 68 on Sunday. Taking third was Middlebury’s Rodrigo Andrade, who turned in a 72 and 71 for a 143.
Aiding Rodrigo’s efforts for the host school was Philippe Morin, who finished in a tie for 11th after carding a 148 (72-76). Reid Buzby was next with a 149 (77-72), tying him for 12th. Rounding out the Panther squad were David McDaniel (74-76) and Jeffrey Giguere (77-73), who each finished with a 150.
