MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s soccer team won twice in recent action to improve to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in NESCAC play. The Panthers will host league foe Tufts at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Panthers blanked host Colby, 3-0. Middlebury did not allow a shot on goalie Kate Reinmuth and forced Colby goalie Samantha Rizzo to make seven stops. Their margin in shots at goal was 15-3.
Panther Katherine Hobbs opened the scoring 4:21 into match. Hobbs took a pass from Emma Shumway at the top of the Colby penalty area and found the lower left corner.
Middlebury doubled its lead in the 29th minute, when Adrianna Gildner half-volleyed home Amy Martin’s cross from the right side. In the 88th minute, Amanda Dafonte netted the rebound of an Ellie Greenberg shot.
On Tuesday, Middlebury posted its fourth consecutive shutout victory, 3-0 over visiting St. Lawrence (6-3-2).
The Panther scored all three goals in the first half. At 10:01, Gildner tapped home a Martin serve from the right side to the far post. Three minutes later, Shumway connected from 20 yards out, and at 43:35, Dafonte converted Greenberg’s cross from the left side. 
Middlebury held the advantage in shots (19-10), including a 13-6 edge in the opening half. Saints goalie Samantha Allen recorded eight saves for the Saints, while Panther starter Ursula Alwang registered four stops in the opening half and Reinmuth had one save after the break for Middlebury.
