Wins scarce in local field hockey
ADDISON COUNTY — A road tie for Mount Abraham proved to be the only positive result for area high school field hockey teams, as Otter Valley and Middlebury each dropped a pair of games late last week.
EAGLES
On Thursday, Eagle goalie Chessley Jackman worked a 10-save shutout as Mount Abe earned a 0-0 tie at Division I Champlain Valley. The Eagle defense also survived 18 penalty corners attempted by the 3-1-2 Redhawks. Mount Abe is 3-3-1.
OTTERS
On Saturday, host Hartford dealt OV a 2-0 setback that dropped the defending D-II champs to 4-4. Hartford (8-1-1) avenged its only loss of the season, which came in Brandon.
On Wednesday, visiting Burr & Burton scored two late goals to upset OV, 3-2. Allison Lowell, from Courtney Bushey, scored for OV in the first half, and Livia Bernhardt gave OV a 2-1 lead early in the second. OV goalie Myliah Mcdonough stopped three shots.
TIGERS
On Thursday, defending Division I champion South Burlington moved to 6-0 by defeating the host Tigers, 4-1. Lexi Bartlett converted a penalty stroke for MUHS, and goalie Bridget Audet stopped 12 shots.
On Saturday, Mount Mansfield (3-2) upended MUHS, 3-2, in overtime, dropping the Tigers to 1-6. Calista Carl scored both Tiger goals, one with an assist from Lily Smith, and Audet made nine saves.
