Tiger boys’ and girls’ cross country teams run strong at Mount Abe meet

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ cross-country team won a six-team meet at Mount Abraham on Tuesday, with the host Eagles third, while the Tiger girls took second behind Colchester on the hilly Mount Abe 5K course.
The Tiger boys won with 33 points, edging second-place Colchester (36). Mount Abe (99), Rice (107), Spaulding (136), and Richford (155) followed. Runners from Missisquoi and Enosburg also competed in the Eagles’ only home meet of the fall.
On the girls’ side,  Colchester (42), edged MUHS (53) and Rice (57), with Missisquoi (105) and Spaulding (143) trailing the field. The Eagle girls did not have the minimum number of competitors to score as a team, but joined runners from Richford and Enosburg in the race as individuals.
Tiger Henry Ganey won the boys’ race, in which there were 73 runners, and Julian Schmitt (fourth) and Tobias Broucke (seventh) joined him in the top 10. Daniel Wisell took 15th, while Nico Brayton and Hunter Heffernan were 26th and 29th, respectively.
For the Mount Abe boys, Andrew Raymond (ninth) cracked the top 10, and Aidan May was 13th. Also for the Eagles, Will Aldrich was 23rd (20:41), Ross Carr was 25th (20:47), Jude Bunch was 42nd (22:13), and Ryan Adams was 43rd (22:13.5).
Caroline Kimble led the Tiger girls by taking third, followed by Kate Oster in eighth, Kate Wallace in ninth, Taylor Moulton in 15th, Sophie Marks in 18th, Katherine Koehler in 19th and Mary Ann Eastman in 21st.
In a race with 63 competitors, Eagles Delaynah Leavitt and Rose Meyer were 30th in 25:39 and 43rd in 28:30, respectively. Savannah Tebeau-Sherry of Colchester won the girls’ race in 20:12.

 Top 20 local girls’ finishers and their times were: 3. Kimble, MUHS, 20:25; 8. Oster, MUHS, 21:51; 9. Wallace, MUHS, 22:02; 15. Moulton, MUHS, 23:28; 18. Marks, MUHS, 23:56; 19. Koehler, MUHS, 24:11.
OV RESULTS
Also on Tuesday, Otter Valley runners competed at a Marble Valley meet hosted by Mill River over a shorter course.
Otter Anthony Rovi finished 10th in 12:57 for his team’s best effort. He was followed by Wesley Smith in 16th in 13:26, Hayden Gallo in 35th in 14:20, Zachary Scarborough in 46th in 15:10, and Colby Smith in 70th in 16:57,
On the girls side for OV, Kyla Dodge-Goshea took 24th in 17:21, Brianna Martone was 26th in 18:28, and Brittney Danforth was 34th place in 21:08.
RANDOLPH MEET
Runners from MUHS, Vergennes and Mt. Abe also competed the previous Friday at Randolph. The Tiger boys and girls each finished third, the boys in a nine-team race and the girls in a seven-team race. Tiger Ross Crowne won the boys’ race and teammate Kate Oster was second in the girls’ event, both of which were contested on the Vermont Technical College 5K course.
The VUHS boys edged Mount Abe for sixth; neither of those schools fielded full, five-strong girls’ teams.
The boys’ scores were 1. Lyndon, 72; 2. Harwood, 81; 3. MUHS, 90; 6. VUHS, 159; 7. Mt. Abe, 161.
The girls’ scores were 1. Harwood, 63; 2. Burr & Burton, 64; 3. MUHS, 65.
The Tiger boys’ scorers and their overall finishes were: 1. Crowne, 18:26.52; 4. Henry Ganey, 19:10.46; 23. Daniel Wisell, 20:57.75; 24. Silas Conlon, 21:05.83; and 47. Ethan Reiderer, 22:37.80.
The Commodore boys’ scorers and their overall finishes were: 10. Spencer Hurlburt, 20:04.55; 12. Wade Mullin, 20:30.68; 39. Erich Reitz, 22:03.18; 63. Ben Praamsma, 23:21.36; and 83. Jake Barnes, 24:30.14.
The Eagle boys’ scorers and their overall finishes were: 15. Andrew Raymond, 20:38.96; 29. Aidan May, 21:27.15; 38. Jude Bunch, 21:59.58;  42. Will Aldrich, 22:25.21; and 68. Ross Carr, 23:36.96.
The Tiger girls’ scorers and their overall finishes were: 2. Kate Oster, 23:13.15; 9. Kate Wallace, 24:43.65; 15. Taylor Moulton, 25:26.78; 22. Mary Ann Eastman, 26:07.65; and 31. Isabel Olson, 27:03.75.
For VUHS, Sadie Kass was 13th in 25:17.21, Emma Beauchemin was 21st in 25:58.05, Sophia Parker was 29th in 26:48.72, and Anna Huppuch was 69th in 30:58.86.
Ally Hoff finished 30th for Mount Abe in 26:57.08.
